  • Had my interview this morning; it went well, but he did say that there were a lot of applicants and he couldn't make any guarantees. I do hope they call me.

Food adventures: last time I was at Whole Foods, I discovered a bunch of dandelion greens for sale. Now, I'd heard that dandelions were originally brought to America as an edible plant, and I've always wondered what they taste like; moreover, I'm not the type of person to pick a dandelion out of the yard and chow down, so I bought them. We're eating them on our sandwiches this week. Turns out they're one of the BITTER greens... maybe we should be sauteing them with bacon?

  • They called me back. Second interview is on Thursday. Time to resume being nervous.

I'm teaching Sunday school this Sunday. This will be interesting, because I haven't done it in awhile - so long, in fact, that several of my classmates have not experienced it before. It's also going to be interesting, because I don't really like the book I'm teaching from. But that's no problem; I can teach it however I want because nobody else is reading it. Ha ha! Anyway, I'm a little nervous about this too, but I hope it will go okay.

Is there a job where you get paid to read? I need THAT job.

Walking to the dumpster and back is enough to cause me to start sweating. That's disgusting. It's been 2 years since I've been this hot, and my body just doesn't know how to cope anymore. I wonder if it is going to figure it out, or if I just need to stay inside till October.

  • For many months now, my car's turn signal has, if you will, been on the blink. It makes the clicking noise at random intervals while you're driving - weird, and has the potential to drive you insane, but not enough of a problem to get fixed. Until this morning.

On my way to the job interview, I noticed that now, when I actually turned on the turn signal, it lit up solid instead of blinking. The second time I tried to use the turn signal, the same thing happened, except now a little stream of smoke was flowing out of the steering column. Smoking car = Kristy freakout. I turned into the nearing parking lot, shut off the car, called the husband... he traded cars with me so that he could get mine fixed while I went to the interview. What a guy.

So I was only a few minutes late and a tiny bit flustered. Sigh. I did go ahead and type in Dvorak, which I think they forgave me for when they clocked me at 78 words a minute. The HR lady who gave the interview was very friendly, which I never know how to interpret - is she just friendly, or does she actually like me? She said that after she conducts all the interviews, she passes along a handful of candidates to the department head, who will then conduct his own interviews, but that won't happen until next month. She spent quite a bit of time explaining the benefits package, which I interpret as a positive sign. (The benefits package, btw, is amazing.) So... I think I would like this job, so I hope they call me back!

  • I've got a job interview tomorrow.

... It involves a typing test. I'm a little nervous about this, because it means I either (a) type in QWERTY, where I am much slower than normal and have to look at the keys or (b) reveal that I type in an alternate layout and request I mess with their computers. I usually withhold the weird-keyboard information until after I'm hired, because nobody ever knows what I'm talking about and I'm afraid it would make a negative impression. But I don't think I can type 60 WPM in QWERTY. So I'm not sure which is worse.

  • I am totally entering this year's cobbler contest. Now, I've never made cobbler before, but I don't consider that a real handicap. It just means I get to make a bunch of experimental batches before deciding on an entry. Any tips from previous entrants?
