Now, this is scary and fun and whatever, and America gets really involved with the band of plucky survivors... and then, around early October or so, a person with a strange infection shows up on the TV show that airs immediately before the zombie show. And then on the show that airs right after the zombie show. And then, before you know it, zombies are EVERYWHERE! The network is completely overrun! (Even the reality shows. I don't know about you, but I'd love to see an episode of "Dancing with the Zombies.")

Brilliant, I tell you. Now I'm just going to sit back and wait for Hollywood to call.
Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Good news! I'm going to be working part-time for a D&D buddy. Sounds like I have the potential to be doing a lot of things like I did at the ice cream factory - invoicing, inventory, accounts payable, trying to keep the place organized... not sure how it's all gonna work, but I'm excited about it. Hooray!

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Got the husband enrolled for the fall with no trouble at all. ... This is so counter to our previous dealings with the community college, I suspect it is a trap. But still, I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

He's taking TWO math classes this fall. Should be interesting.
This is funny.

I just finished reading a book which used the word "stochastic" several times. It was the first time I'd ever seen that word. I had to go look it up. Today, I'm listening to RadioLab while I'm cleaning, and what's the subject of the show? Stochasticity!

"Wow!" I thought. "What are the odds?"

(... if you don't get it, you should listen to the episode of RadioLab.)
Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Picture an ottoman made from 3 or 4 salvaged couch cushions stacked atop each other and bailed together using heavy duty straps like these:

(I believe they're intended to tie a kayak to the roof of a car.)

Potentially cool, or just ghetto?
Monday, July 13, 2009

Oh man, I just found my new favorite etsy store. I keep having ideas for things I want to make. And I'm not sure, but I think the tedium of making sure all my lines are straight would be worth it in the end.

I want to make some laundry bags: heavy linen sacks with black stamp lettering. Do linen laundry bags already exist? Probably. But if I made them, I could make them the right size, and label them according to the way *I* sort my laundry. Plus, screening on the lettering would be fun.

I want to make duvet covers, too; I'd like to use the fabric from amenity (after, you know, I win the lottery). You say to me, doesn't amenity already sell duvet covers? Yes, but not in the right size. Et cetera, et cetera.
Friday, July 10, 2009

Today is a big cooking day. I'm making:

* Batch of breakfast burritos to freeze (for J to eat on his way to school)
* Chicken tortilla soup (lunch)
* Moonfruit cobbler (for the contest at church tonight... I hope it's good)
* Chicken salad (my contribution to the potluck tonight)

Even the husband is in the kitchen today. He started us up a batch of cold-brew tea AND cold-brew coffee.

Anyone going to be at the thing tonight? Does anyone dare to try the moonfruit?

Thursday, July 09, 2009

Had my interview this morning; it went well, but he did say that there were a lot of applicants and he couldn't make any guarantees. I do hope they call me.
--
Food adventures: last time I was at Whole Foods, I discovered a bunch of dandelion greens for sale. Now, I'd heard that dandelions were originally brought to America as an edible plant, and I've always wondered what they taste like; moreover, I'm not the type of person to pick a dandelion out of the yard and chow down, so I bought them. We're eating them on our sandwiches this week. Turns out they're one of the BITTER greens... maybe we should be sauteing them with bacon?
